We are delighted to note that the first issue of our Journal was well-received. The Journal was accessed more than 7700 times. Some of the articles were viewed more than 3800 times and downloaded more than 850 times. These figures reflect the interest and perhaps recognition of the quality of the journal. We and our publisher use the latest technological advances that make our Journal an important source of scientific information. It is now our biggest challenge to keep our readers interested and authors contributing. Currently, there is a steady flow of submissions. Our authors will be rewarded by enhanced processing and competent review of their work.

As Editors, we realized our professional duty and social accountability to ensure that researches published in the Saudi Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences provide valid information, in content and format. As such, it will be easily accessible to all those who may benefit from it. Before a rigorous peer review process, the Editorial Team checks the scientific content, originality, relevance and importance of the papers.

This second issue is published on time as scheduled. We will sustain our efforts to continue meeting the quality criteria such as the regularity in publication, visibility -local, global - and attracting readership.

To fulfill the role of Editors in promoting good scientific writing and to improve the accuracy in papers, a continuing medical education (CME) component of the Journal has been introduced. The objectives are capacity-building and education of authors, reviewers and readers. Topics in the CME section will include "Tips from the Editors" and an image quiz. "Tips from the Editors" are directed to authors, reviewers and readers alike. These will be short accounts on several issues related to medical writing and editorship. Material in this section will be compiled from different authentic sources such as World Association of Medical Editors, International Committee of Medical Journals Editors, Committee of Publications Ethics, journals and other sources. The purpose is to educate our readership on basic, but important principles of research design, conduction and write-up. Topics that include titles such as editorial policies, quality assurance for reviewers, publication ethics, peer-review process, authorship, conflict of interests, misconduct, confidentiality, impact factor and others.

Many of our readers are keen to be kept updated on the upcoming important national and international scientific events. Hence, announcements on these will be regularly published in this and future issues of the Journal.

Our authors and readers are kindly urged to submit their prospective, controlled studies, clinical trials, retrospective, systematic reviews, short communications and other types of studies. Our respected readers are also encouraged to write "Letters to the Editors" commenting on the published articles.

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to our authors, readers and reviewers for their highly appreciated remarks and warm welcome of the Journal.
